Testing

What in the world does purple banana hats have to do with testing ranking factors?  In order to even begin to test any type of ranking factor online, you need to find a query space that has very little activity.  The dynamic nature of the internet makes it all but impossible to stop all other factors from changing when you only want to test one factor.  So, I sought out this low-competition query space so I could keep an eye on it and know with as much confidence as you can have when testing this stuff that not much will happen here.

I also happen to be familiar with this query space.  What started as a silly phrase I used to make an example became a phrase I used on purpose here and there to see what happened when I did.  I also got to see those that used an article directory article of mine without using my resource box and giving me my links as required (ha).

Regardless of those that use my content inappropriately, I am glad to be running this test to see if having your keywords on your domain name make that much of a difference in a low competition query space.  I’m also seeing if these is any favoritism for the extension of the domain name.  Will a .com matter more?  What about hyphens in the domain name?  Will the search engines rank a site lower because it has hyphens in the name?  Will it rank higher?  I am really interested in seeing the results and seeing what happens to the purple banana hats query space when my work is done.  As always, the best results come from your own testing.
